The Guardian's Duelist Ch. 6 P-1

"That's awesome!" Syrus exclaimed.

A small black sketch book was on Morgan's lap and she was just putting the finishing touches on her Rescueroid drawing, continuously studying Syrus's card as reference. "And… done!" Morgan stated.

"You really got a talent. Mind if I look at your other drawings?" Syrus asked.

"Not at all," Morgan replied and she handed over her book.

Syrus flipped to the first page, where little fairies were dancing around a garden of roses. The following pages included domestic animals as well as well-known Duel Monsters including Harpy Lady, Red Eyes Black Dragon, and the entire colored Kuriboh Brothers. A different date was written in the top right corner of every drawing.

Up until a year from the current date did the drawings become depressing, growing with grief with each continuing page. A small, helpless child in a dark room, a home being burned to the ground, and a dragon rising to the sky with mortal wounds and tears in its eyes.

Morgan realized that Syrus was staring at the despairing drawings and she quickly leaned over and closed the book. "Sorry; that's a little more personal." She took the book from Syrus and put it back into her bag.

"I didn't mean to intrude," Syrus apologized awkwardly.

Morgan looked at him. "It's alright." She looked towards the ceiling as if she could see right through it. "If you must know, I was depressed when I drew those." She turned back to Syrus with her eyes closed and a giant smile on her face. "But that's all in the past, so don't worry about it."

Syrus seemed to ease up and sighed. Just then, the automatic door opened and  Syrus turned around to see Atticus in the doorway. "Oh, hi, Atticus. If you're looking for Ms. Fontaine, she's not here."

"Oh, Syrus; didn't expect to find you here," Atticus stated with surprise, looking across the room at the short duelist. "I'm not looking for Ms. Fontaine." He took a step in and the door closed behind him.

Syrus looked at Morgan and then back at Atticus. "Did Alexis tell you about Morgan?" He asked.

Atticus nodded. "When Alexis told me that a girl that went by Morgan Halo was here at Duel Academy, I had to see for myself if it was the dueling prodigy Morgan Halo and not someone who just happened to have the same name." He came to Morgan's bedside and smiled. "And it turns out it is; the dueling state champion with the "Guardian of Embarr" deck."

Morgan's face turned white as though a secret had just been reveled.

"Dueling prodigy? State champion?" Syrus repeated. He looked at Morgan with a confused look on his face. "What's he talking about?"

"I-I was going to tell you and Jaden eventually," Morgan stammered.

"Tell me what?"

Everyone turned around and realized that Jaden had walked into the room without any of them realizing.

As if to answer Jaden's question, Atticus quickly reached into his coat, pulled out a rolled-up magazine, and handed it to Jaden.

Jaden unrolled the magazine and realized it was a popular American Dueling magazine and the current month was posted at the corner. The top story that took up the entire cover was, in bold letters, "The Guardian's Duelist Does It Again! Another Year as State Champion, Morgan Halo Continues To Amaze The Dueling Community!" A picture of a familiar individual holding up a large golden trophy cup was under the title.

"WHAT!? YOU'RE A DUELING STAR!?!?" Jaden's voice seemed to vibrate the entire island as it echoed exaggeratedly across the island.
