The Guardian's Duelist Ch. 6 P-4

[Flashback fades and scene returns to nurse's office.]

"I had tried to get into the apartment but the firefighters caught me before I could make it inside." Morgan bowed her head. "They took me to the police station, and a friend of mine from school had her mom come get me."

"Gosh, Morgan; we had no idea how much you went through," Syrus stated.

"But then, why did you leave?" Atticus asked.

For a few moments, Morgan didn't reply. Then she felt a hand on her shoulder and realized it was Jaden.

"You can tell us," Jaden said. "We're here for you and we'll try to help in any way we can."

Morgan's eyes shined with hope and she smiled. "Thanks, Jaden." More confident she added, "Even though I had a place to stay, my friend's mom wasn't my legal guardian, so she couldn't legally take over my care. That's when Dueling Guardian Industry made their move; they manipulated facts and made everyone believe Julie was an agent that worked for their company, so therefore they were in charge of my care. While the courts were trying to figure out where I would go, they allowed me to stay with my friend and her family. But I had learned twice that Guardian Duelist wouldn't let me stay."

"For my friend and her family's own protection, I snuck out of school one day. After that, I took Julie's boat out to sea. I remember getting caught in that storm, but I can't recall where exactly I planned on running off to; it's all a blank," Morgan finished.

For a while, everyone was silent, thinking over what they all had just learned. Somehow, Morgan had made it to Duel Academy, but there had been no sign of a boat or a wreck of one. Furthermore, the craggy rocks and fast current that surrounded the island were so dangerous, that it would be practically impossible to swim to the island without being torn to be pieces.

That's when a thought seemed to strike Morgan and she quickly reached for her satchel. Everyone brought their attention to Morgan as she dug into her bag, desperate to finding something. A few heartbeats later, Morgan pulled out the sky-blue belt case that held her Duel Monster cards. She took out the cards, placed them in her left hand and, closing her eyes, carefully put her right hand on top of the deck.

Everyone waited anxiously, wondering what Morgan was doing or what might happen next. Several moments of silent passed with nothing taking place.

Then, without warning, Chazz came into the room, the sound of the sliding door opening causing everyone except Morgan to jump in surprise. They all looked at him with curiosity and a little bit of anxiety.

"What?" Chazz asked with his usual scowl. Held against his chest was a familiar white handkerchief wrapped around something. He ignored the others' looks and walked over to Morgan's bedside.

By now, Morgan had reopened her eyes and was staring down at her deck. Chazz, unaware of the situation, unwrapped the object to reveal the golden Blue Eyes White Dragon figurine. "Hey, Morgan. Look; I've kept it all these years, so I never truly-" He stopped short when he realized tears were leaking from Morgan's eyes and running down her cheeks. "What's wrong!?"

Morgan looked at Chazz and more tears came. "Oh, Chaz. I-I can't hear them. I can't hear my cards' voices anymore!" Her shirt was now beginning to dampen with her tears and she collapsed into Chazz's chest. "Something's not right. The Guardian's have never been silenced before," she murmured.

Chazz surprised everyone when he put his arms around Morgan to comfort her, as she continued to cry, scared and confused.
